Mind Food | The Why

I thought it would be fitting to write this first blog about why I have made the decision to step into the realm of coaching and facilitation. I guess it’s always been within me, yet it’s taken 2 decades of working in some really challenging (and rewarding) roles to finally realise that people are my passion - I love watching others excel and thrive in their own way.

Kind of like teaching a kid to ride a bike. Seeing the look of fear and determination as they struggle getting the co-ordination right. Steering, peddling, balance. It all seems so complex. Suddenly they gain momentum, muscle memory starts to build, confidence is high. Then it all clicks into gear - they are off……and never look back!

To play a small part in that journey, to offer the right word of encouragement, self-belief, motivation or (sometimes) tough love – is exactly what fuels me as a person. Imagine if I asked you – Why you do what you do? What answer would you give?

-        Would you know how to respond?

-        Have you given yourself the time and space to ask?

-        Who would know if you don’t?

More importantly, have you ever asked yourself the question? A great book that has been well publicised on the personal development circuit for many years is Simon Sinek’s ‘Start with Why’. Simon has carved a niche challenging businesses and individuals to consider how they think, act and communicate, in order to be more inspired at work. Simon Says (great catchphrase!) :

’People don’t by what you do they buy why you do it’ Check out his original TED talk here:

I don’t know about you, but I love working with inspired people. It makes the day meaningful, fuels creativity and makes life more interesting. Discovering what motivates me has brought clarity, perspective and motivation to my days.

What’s your why?
