Mind Food | Bandwidth
Do you find that sometimes your well planned day goes completely sideways? I know I do.
I mis-time the traffic, one of the kids is sick, sleep was not great, a curve ball meeting comes up, parking is full, forgot to grab breakfast...and that is just the start.
You see, we all live busy lives. Between family, friends, work and (trying) to look after yourself, each day gets full. We tend to divest our energy to everything else, sometimes at the neglect of what makes us personally fulfilled.
Trying to do too much in any 24 hour cycle is a fast track to burn out. It’s like trying to download a few high definition movies, stream music and home school while conducting a zoom conference.
What happens?? - Not enough bandwidth.
The system gets gridlocked and needs to be reset.
You see, how you allocate your bandwidth is the difference between feeling accomplished and fulfilled at days end – or needing a system reboot.
Sometimes we get stuck in our own ‘busy-ness’, forget to take stock and allocate our bandwidth in the right area to bring the biggest benefit.
Three simple steps that I find that help are:
1. Plan your focus time – what is in the diary, gets done
2. Exercise saying ‘No’ – It's not selfish, it’s saying Yes to other things!
3. Know your peak times and plan your key tasks accordingly
We don’t always have the luxury of upgrading our data plan.
Where are you choosing to focus your energy today?
